We work with a wide variety of timbers and panel products, but whenever possible we aim to source wood locally, and here in Eynsham we have the opportunity to use woods from the local estate which has maintains and fells timber from their 3000 acres of Oxfordshire woodland.
Our stock of native timbers varies all the time, and commonly includes Oaks, Sweet Chestnut, Lime, Maple, Sycamore and native Beech. Here a a few examples of local timbers we have in the workshop at the moment:
Yew - distinctively stripy from deep burnt orange to palest cream, very dense, with great characterful knots
English ash - beautiful subtle pale colours, lightest cream with olive and grey streaks, strong grain, this is a really versatile and strong timber, ideal for contemporary pieces, and its variation makes it perfect combining with other timbers in a palette
Burr oak - also known as 'pippy oak', distinctive knots and whorls called 'cats paws' make this an extraordinary wood and rare, one of the slowest growing trees, and one of the largest oaks with a trunk diameter of up to 3m
English Brown oak - a different beast altogether from the American white oak normally seen, this has a rich honey dark colour and a knotted grain, a slow growing and deeply beautiful timber
English walnut - rich warm colours, stunning elegant grain, can vary through pale wheat to dark purple
